IMOS MODIS Australasian Ocean Colour Products
Updated: 2019-05-17
This is a collection of ocean colour products derived from the MODIS Aqua sensor. These are mostly standard NASA products at 1km daily resolution. The data are produced by using the NASA Seadas package on the MODIS Aqua L1B data set to generate a large suite of products in swath format. Selected products are then regridded and mosaiced to form daily continental mosaics at 1km resolution. These products are then further averaged to produce monthly data sets. The MODIS/Aqua instrument is one of the foremost moderate resolution ocean colour sensors of the past decade. The area encompassed is the whole of the Australian terrestrial region and the surrounding oceans. It is intended by IMOS that these data will be a national research resource. Additional regridded products will be generated in response to user demand. The swath format products include all-band radiances, remote sensing reflectances and many derived products, such as chlorophyll and diffuse attenuation coefficient (k490). Further derived products are also available, such as net primary productivity and experimental phytoplankton functional types. The data continue and extend the time series of continental scale moderate resolution ocean colour time series started by SeaWIFS. IMOS should be acknowledged when these data are used.
