Bluelink Ocean Reanalysis - BRAN2023

Updated: 2024-10-25

Data here are from a Bluelink ReANalysis (BRAN) experiment, simulating 2010 to 2023, with a near-global, 10-km resolution (eddy-resolving) ocean model. Data assimilation adjusts the ocean state to observations of temperature, salinity, and surface height. Model output is a realistic reconstruction of mesoscale upper ocean dynamics around Australia for this period. Ocean reanalyses have various applications, such as, investigation of the ocean directly (e.g. general circulation, extreme events) or supporting further research (e.g. particle tracking, regional model boundary conditions) BRAN2023 incorporates updates on the previous version (BRAN2020), including larger ensemble sizes in both steps of the multiscale data assimilation process and a new sea level reference. These updates have reduced the differences between the reconstructed ocean and available observations. BRAN output is experimental. A paper with a more complete description and assessment of BRAN2023 is being prepared. Users of output here are encouraged to join the bran-users google group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/bran-users).
