Heard and McDonald Islands survey of the seafloor by a Remotely Operated Vehicle - 2025-2026

The images are of the seafloor environment, taken from approximately 1 m about the seafloor. They contain images of marine organisms, algae, rocks and surface substrates. These data were collected as part of the Marine biosecurity work undertaken as part of AAS 4651. Transects were taken during the Heard Island and McDonald Island (HIMI) voyages of the RSV Nuyina in the 2025/26 field season on V1 and V2 of the HIMI campaigns. Transects were selected based on bathymetry data, proximity to coastline, nutrient sources and geographic features. Transects were undertaken at specific depths for specific time periods. These data are the images captured along the transect, they depict marine organisms and the seafloor. Images were taken along each transect, at about 1m from the seafloor. They were captured using two different ROVs - Blue Robotics Blue ROV and a FiFish.
