ASPeCt (Sea Ice Observations) Collected on the Denman Marine Voyage of the Nuyina, February to May, 2025

ASPeCt (Antarctic Sea Ice Processes and Climate) bridge-based sea ice observations were collected on the Denman Marine Voyage, V3 of the 2024-2025 season on the RSV Nuyina, near the vicinity of the Denman Glacier and Shackleton Ice Shelf. Observations began on 08/03/2025 and ended 22/04/2025, following the protocol of the ASPeCt Sea-Ice Cards (https://data.aad.gov.au/metadata/AAS_4506_AAD_SeaIce_Cards). Observations were made by volunteers throughout the voyage on the hour, from the RSV Nuyina bridge, with permission from RSV Nuyina crew. A 65cm Norwegian buoy was deployed below the Bridge’s portside viewing hole. The csv data is contained in two files as downloaded from the IceBox software (downloaded from https://aspectsouth.org/aresources/shipobs/ ): `Nuyina V3 2024-25.csv` contains the majority of the data, except for one day (17/04/2025, contained in `DMV-obslounge.csv`) when observations were instead taken from the RSV Nuyina’s level 9 observation lounge. Data has not been quality-controlled. Note the Norwegian Buoy was not visible from the level 9 observation lounge on 17/04/2025. Though the ASPeCt protocol does not require observations to be made while the ship is stationary, data may have still been collected during this time. Volunteers were not available every hour, so there are gaps in the record, and no data was taken at night when it was dark.
